We talked with Christian about his take on Scenario Planning

  • Why is Scenario Planning interesting? “Typically, strategies are good for 3-5 years while investment decisions (assets, IT, M&A etc.) need to be good for 10, 15 or even 25 years. Thus, in-vestment decisions are basically made looking at a 3-5 year forecast and then placing a bet. Scenario planning is really cool, because it enables taking the long view in a systematic, data driven and insightful way. Building plausible scenarios together, we can ensure investment decisions are robust.”
  • What are the central questions our clients struggle with? “Should I invest? Scenario planning makes intuitive sense when deciding whether to build a factory, buy 10 new vessels or develop a new prod-uct line. But it also works if we want to understand consumer trends, technology shifts and even political movements.”
  • Where and how did you last make an impact to help our clients? “We recently helped a supplier to the offshore oil and gas industry look 15 years into the future and predict future customer needs and wants. Based on this we helped them shape their future offerings.”
