Charlotte is very interested in following the development of Internet of Things and has been interviewing leaders from different Danish companies about their readiness in this area. Here is her point of view on the topic.
- Why do you think, that Internet of Things is an important area for corporations to look at? “I think that there is a strong reason why there is so much attention around the Internet of Things. Right now, we see it delivering new value across both industries and value chains, and yet there is significant potential left. The challenge is that a wholehearted IoT effort requires companies to undergo a digital transition worthy of the coming decade, which – especially for non-digital native companies – is a major feat.”
- What are some of the central questions your clients are struggling with? “The three key questions include: 1) What does the new industry playing field look like given new digital entrants, and how is our current portfolio positioned in that context?, 2) How do we convert the acknowledgement that Internet of Things can add value into concrete value realization initiatives?, and 3) How do we go about the organizational change required, both in terms of structuring for success and having the right competences in place.”
- Can you highlight a few of the most interesting learnings from the research you did on IoT? How do you approach this topic as a client? “We spent a good part of the Fall talking to Danish companies about their efforts to reap the value of the Internet of Things. We ended up recommending a ‘get started’ guide that addresses the main challenges that companies flagged. Check out our findings here. Also, we are in the process of setting up a dedicated innovation unit for an insurance company, which has special focus on mastering digital change and is setting the company up for the future.”
